Ah, Miss Mariah Carey … One of my favorite singers growing up. Another Dream project I helped out with for Masterclass. This graphics package included a Main Title animation, 4 Chapter and 34 Sub-chapter animations, plus smaller graphic elements that appeared throughout the class. Lauren Fundora was the Art Director who developed the beautiful style direction, full of scanned butterfly wings and flowers. I was brought on board to help execute and bring her style to life. It has a heavy influence of colorful flowers, bright pink-purple and teal tones, and of course, butterflies, throughout the graphics - I don’t even think you can create anything for Mariah Carey if it doesn’t include butterflies! Grateful once again to Lauren Fundora and Adriana Blacarte for bringing me on board, and for the whole teams’ help in achieving final delivery.

PROCESS|

The process began with Lauren Fundora scanning these really beautiful bits of natural elements to start. These included Butterflies, butterfly wings, flowers, leaves and many other textures to help set the tone. Using some really fun smudging and scale-glitch effects, the direction feels like it has a more elegant feel to a contemporary 90s/2000s vibe.

Bringing together natural real-world elements with the digital world seemed to create this look that feels so painterly, like flowing colors through a river of elements. Using Mariah Carey’s voice to drive these elements, the environment continues to feel like a colorful flow through a musical experience.
