MASTERCLASS| METALLICA Graphics Package
2021
ROLE: design / animation
I had the pleasure of working with Masterclass again to create a graphics package for the band, Metallica. The graphics package included a Main Title Introduction, 13 Chapter and 40 Subchapter animations. Lauren Fundora was the Art Director who set the tone of the whole package. The style heavily involved bringing a 90’s grunge vibe with a crunchy, glitch aesthetic to the whole feel. A huge thank you to Lauren for all her excellent direction and guidance, and to Producer Adriana Blacarte for bringing me on board for this project.
PROCESS|
METALLICA was such a well-known band of the 80s and 90s, and their Heavy Metal style had a huge influence on the direction of the graphics. The Class included animations for an Introduction, Chapters & Sub-chapter Introductions, plus 50+ In-Class elements that included Full-Screen text, pull quotes and Guitar Tab creations to help illustrate notes played on screen by the band.
Imagining sound waves carrying us throughout the environments, the visuals connect instruments and band mates from shot to shot. To add to this textured, raw grunge feel, I brought a distorted, modulated glitch effect to the transitions of the elements and text, keeping us in this sporadic heavy metal vibe.
Since METALLICA is a crew teaching us about how to be a band, it felt important to have so much of the motion reacting to music. Using tools to drive audio, many of the visuals play like sound waves, audio projection, or musical notes brought to life on-screen.
